Teign Valley Woodlands, Devon
- Located in Drewsteignton, Devon, South West England, England
- Fingle Bridge is a well known Devon beauty spot. Occupying a central position in one of Dartmoor National Park's most stunning wooded valleys, its spacious car parks are often full in high season and on bank holiday weekends. Most people head west into the Teign Gorge towards the National Trust's Castle Drogo and Gardens. Fewer people head east into the Teign Valley Woodlands. These woodlands run along the south bank of the River Teign for about 5km. They then meet the Dunsford Nature Reserve
- Note that 'access to this working woodland is provided through an agreement between Dartmoor National Park Authority and the landowner'. Whilst we've walked there on plenty of occasions, 'please be aware that pheasant shooting takes place of specific dates and heed all notices'. (Source: information boards on site.) You can't miss the signs when the shoots take place. As they say, heed their advice
- The woods within the Teign Valley Woodlands include Hore Wood, Butterdon Ball Wood, Houndsmoor Wood, Hitchcombe Wood, Coleridge Wood and Cod Wood
- The Iron Age hillfort Wooston Castle is located within the woods
- You can also walk in from Clifford Bridge and Steps Bridge. The latter route passes through Dunsford Wood and Dunsford Nature Reserve to the Clifford Bridge area before entering the Teign Valley Woodlands
- The southern boundary of the Teign Valley Woodlands joins with Mardon Down
- There are information boards on site providing details of bridleways and permissive footpaths. Consult the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map as well
