Tavy Cleave, Devon

One of a number of remarkably beautiful valleys or cleaves cut by the rivers that flow down from the high moors in Dartmoor National Park
This one is to the west of the Park and is reasonably close to the pretty Dartmoor villages of Mary Tavy and Lydford. The latter has its own cleave and is managed by the National Trust
To explore the cleave, we'd recommend starting from Lane End near Mary Tavy. Head up to Ger Tor before dropping down into the cleave by the River Tavy. Follow the river south west until you hit a heavily used path by a mine leat. This loops back round to the car park at Lane End. Use the Ordnance Survey OL28 Dartmoor map to research this route in detail
