Sheeps Tor, Devon

  • Located in Yelverton, Devon, South West England, England
  • Rising east of Burrator Reservoir is the rocky Sheeps Tor. It's one of a number of impressive, steep-sided tors fringing the north and west of the reservoir. The south east face is popular with climbers. The western area of the flat summit offers stunning views of the reservoir and its woods and plantations below. In our opinion, the views are best in Autumn when the colours turn
  • We've walked to the top of Sheeps Tor from the large car park at Norsworthy Bridge. The road running around the reservoir leads to a grass path that rises steeply through the granite rocks on the northern side of the tor to the summit. You can also walk in from the dams at the southern end of the reservoir. In addition, there are grass parking areas along the road east of Sheepstor village. Obvious grass tracks lead to the summit. As ever, we'd recommend you consult the Ordnance Survey OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail
  • The views are huge. On the horizon to the north is Great Mis Tor. Moving clockwise, you'll see the distinctive North Hessary Tor and Radio/TV Station and then Princetown. The high moors of Dartmoor National Park's south plateau are to the east. The sea is visible to the south along with Plymouth Sound. South west are Kit Hill Country Park and Bodmin Moor in Cornwall. North west are Sharpitor and the rocky fin of Leather Tor. Delightful place. Visit
