Pedn Vounder Beach, Cornwall
- Located in Porthcurno, Cornwall, South West England, England
- South West England is blessed with a high number of gorgeous beaches. Those of us who photograph and write about the South West for PictureTheUK have visited many remarkable stretches of coastline over the decades. At low tide, when the fine shell sand beach is exposed, Pedn Vounder is up there with the best we've seen. It's a privilege to be able to explore it
- Pedn Vounder is part of a sweep of sand in Porthcurno Bay. It's the largest beach in the bay and backs onto dramatic granite cliffs reminiscent of the high tors of Dartmoor National Park. To its west are Green Bay and Porthcurno Beach
- To visit Pedn Vounder Beach, we'd recommend following the coastal path from Porthcurno or Treen to the Submarine Telegraph Cable Pyramid. There, you'll find a sign (photograph included in the gallery) guiding you down to the sand. This is *not* an easy descent as you have to clamber down rocks at points on the path. We would not recommend visiting the beach if you have young children or lack confidence on steep cliff paths. There's another relatively tricky access point at the eastern end of the beach by the Logan Rock Headland (or Promontory). Last, you can walk in from Porthcurno Beach at low tide but be aware of tide times for your return. *People do get cut off by the sea at high tide and have to be rescued so the area is potentially dangerous.* We've visited the beach on many occasions on each route described. We've never had problems but please take care. If you think the paths down to the beach sound too difficult, or if the tide is high, we'd suggest you walk the South West Coast Path to Treryn Dinas Cliff Castle on the Logan Rock Headland (or Promontory) to enjoy the views of the beach. Looking west, you'll see Pedn Vounder Beach, Green Bay, Porthcurno Beach and Minack Theatre
- Pedn Vounder Beach is part of The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula). This area of Cornwall is packed with stunning beaches. Visit Sennen Cove Beach, Marazion Beach (West), St Ives Porthminster Beach and the other sand beaches that line St Ives Bay
- If you're holidaying in the area for any period of time, we'd also recommend exploring the prehistoric attractions inland. Try Lanyon Quoit and Men-an-Tol which are close to one another on the high moorland
- Major attractions in the area include St Michael's Mount, Tate St Ives, Land's End, Mousehole Harbour and many top sites within the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site
- Last, Pedn Vounder Beach is an unofficial nudist beach. If this bothers you, don't go :)
