Logan Rock, Cornwall

  • Located in Porthcurno, Cornwall, South West England, England
  • Spend time studying Ordnance Survey Explorer maps of South West England and you'll bump into points of interest marked 'Logan Stone' or 'Logan Rock'. These are stones or rocks that can be rocked or 'logged'. Perhaps the most famous example of this in South West England is the Logan Rock at Porthcurno Bay down near Land's End in Cornwall. We've positioned the Logan Rock on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location
  • Porthcurno Bay is an arc of coastline on the The Land's End Peninsula (The Penwith Peninsula). At the eastern end of the bay is Logan Rock Headland (or Promontory). This is where you'll find both Treryn Dinas Cliff Castle and the Logan Rock
  • Note that there's a pub of the same name inland at Treen. We provide an external link to The Logan Rock pub
  • Local legend has it that giants once lived in the cliff castles of the Land's End Peninsula. The giant who lived at Treen was, according to his wife, 'a lazy, useless old loon, and she said he was too fat, and didn't take exercise enow [sic]. When he had nothing else to employ himself about, in peaceful times, she told him that he should log the rock, for a few hours every day, to stretch his sinews and make his blood circulate brisker, instead of dozing away all day and night in his chair, which may still be seen.'
