Cross Stone, Devon

  • Located in Princetown, Devon, South West England, England
  • To the best of our knowledge, this is the smallest cross in Dartmoor National Park
  • Whilst researching and photographing the Crane Hill and Fox Tor areas of Dartmoor National Park, we came across a tiny metal cross fastened to a lump of granite on the flank of the moors. This lump of granite and its tiny cross broke the skyline
  • We've positioned the cross on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its general location. Ordinarily, we can be very accurate when geolocating points of interest. However, given the size of the cross, we can only roughly locate it in the area in which we captured the images
  • Note that this tiny cross is sited just south of an ancient travel route. This route is punctuated by crosses. If these crosses are of interest then walk the 'Buckfast-Tavistock (monastic)' route as marked on the Harvey British Mountain Map 'Dartmoor' map
  • By James Penman
