Carnsew Pool and Spit, Cornwall
- Located in Hayle, Cornwall, South West England, England
- Carnsew is a coastal saline lagoon with intertidal mud and sand in the Hayle Estuary. A path runs around the edge of the pool. Another path branches off and runs up the spit of land that pushes out towards the mouth of the estuary. The views are superb
- Carnsew Pool and Spit are part of the Hayle Estuary RSPB Nature Reserve. 'When estuaries further north are frozen over, the Hayle is packed with wading birds such as curlews and grey plovers and flocks of ducks including wigeons and teals. The estuary's relatively small size is a bonus as it means you can see the birds themselves quite easily - not just as 'dots on the horizon'. The sheltered waters of Carnsew are a haven in rough weather for birds such as great northern divers and again, you can get unusually close views of them.' (Source: information board in the Eric Grace Memorial Hide)
- 'Part of Hayle's industrial World Heritage Site, this pool was constructed to flush sand from the harbour in 1830.' (Source: RSPB information leaflet)
- We've positioned Carnsew Pool and Spit on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see their location. When we researched and photographed the area, we walked in from the car park by Copperhouse and Copperhouse Pool
