West Sussex, Visitor & Tourism Guide

Coastal beauty and stunning downland
With beaches stretching pretty much from the county's west (around Chichester Harbour AONB) to the east (around Shoreham-by-Sea) and stunning downland pushing north, West Sussex is one of the UK's most popular leisure destinations. The South Downs National Park alone attracts in the region of 40 million visitor days a year!

In South East England. The English Channel is to the south. Bordered by East Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. London's to the north.

National Parks
Home to a large chunk of the South Downs National Park. Includes major attractions such as the Devil's Dyke and Uppark House, Petworth House and Arundel Castle. The South Downs Way National Trail cuts through the Park.

Areas of beauty
Two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Chichester Harbour AONB and the Sussex Downs AONB

Major destinations
The major city (and county town) is Chichester. For towns, try Arundel, Midhurst and Petworth. If you're looking for a village, visit South Harting.

Beaches and coastline
Try the Witterings (West Wittering and East Wittering) on the boundary of the Chichester Harbour AONB. Then there's Bracklesham Bay to Selsey Bill before the coastline sweeps around to Bognor Regis beach and Bognor Regis Pier. The beach pretty much stretches east through Worthing Beach towards the East Sussex border and then Brighton beyond.

Culture and history
For culture, explore Chichester District Museum, Chichester Cathedral Chagal Window, Fishbourne Roman Palace - Museum, Bignor Roman Villa, Weald and Downland Open Air Museum, Worthing Museum and Art Gallery and Pallant House Gallery.

For history, try Arundel Castle, Chichester Cathedral, Fishbourne Roman Palace - Indoor, Boxgrove Priory, Arundel Cathedral and Petworth House.

Outdoors and wildlife
To experience the county's outdoors and wildlife, we'd recommend River Arun, South Downs Way National Trail, Devil's Dyke and Wakehurst Place Gardens.
