Sussex Downs AONB, Visitor & Tourism Guide

West and East Suusex
In the south of England, below London. Chalk downland running across East and West Sussex.

Now part of the South Downs National Park which runs from Winchester in the west through to Eastbourne in the east.

Devilís Dyke and Seven Sisters
Perhaps the most famous and most photographed sections of the AONB are around Devilís Dyke close to Brighton and, on the coast to the east, the stunning white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head. Both areas are exceptional so itís a choice between land and sea.

Places in which to base yourself
Place in which to base yourself include Midhurst and Petworth to the west and Lewse and Alfriston to the east. When researching the AONB, we particularly liked Arundel. There are plenty of major towns and cities on the fringes of the AONB, too. Try Chichester, Brighton and Eastbourne.

Great walking
Itís great walking country reminiscent of the chalk downland of Wiltshire, Dorset, Kent and Lincolnshire. The most obvious path to follow is the South Downs National Trail.
