Lincolnshire Wolds AONB, Visitor & Tourism Guide

In the east of England within the county of Lincolnshire. A ‘wold’ is a range of hills which consists of open country overlying a base of limestone or chalk.

The Lincolnshire Wolds were once part of a much longer system of wolds running up into the East Riding of Yorkshire and North Yorkshire. Today, the Lincolnshire Wolds and the Yorkshire Wolds have been cut in half by the River Humber.

The Lincolnshire Wolds is the highest area of land between Kent in the south east and Yorkshire in the north east of England.

The Wolds run from Caistor to the north of the county down to Spilsby. Major destinations around the Lincolnshire Wolds include Market Rasen, Louth, Horncastle and Alford. Lincoln is to the west and the Lincolnshire coastline to the east.
