Idyllic location
One of South Devon's most photographed villages, Newton Ferrers is built into the northern bank of Newton Creek. Across the water is the equally attractive Noss Mayo. Beyond that is the coastline and sea.

Walking and sailing
The coastal walking here is relatively gentle yet stunning. Take the South West Coast Path to Gara Point and the National Trust's The Warren (Noss Mayo). Alternatively, heading west, walk to Wembury and then around to Plymouth Sound. In the other direction, the view from Stoke Point across to Bigbury Bay is great.

The River Yealm and Estuary at this point is wonderful so if you're into sailing, head along the estuary and out to sea.

Local attractions
If you're staying in or around Newton Ferrers, there are plenty of top Devon and Cornwall attractions to visit. The National Trust's Saltram House and Gardens has impressive gardens and Dartmoor Zoological Park is a must if you have kids. Plymouth's Plymouth National Marine Aquarium is a joy and further afield, the Tamar Valley's attractions are well worth visiting.

Surrounding area
In the west of the South Devon AONB, Newton Ferrers is a short-ish drive from Plymouth. To the north, head out onto the moors of Dartmoor National Park. To the east, try Bigbury-on-Sea, Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
