The Dart Gorge
The
Dart Gorge, just up the road from the little village of Holne, is one of our top ten recommended walks in
Dartmoor National Park. The area is stunning and must be visited and walked.
Walking
The area around Holne provides pretty much every grade of walk one could want. From a gentle stroll on the bank of the
River Dart by New Bridge, Deeper Marsh and Spitchwick to the more demanding
Two Moors Way/
Dartmoor Way to the semi-scrambles provided by the paths in the gorge itself, the
Dart Gorge has it all.
For those looking for a challenge, we'd thoroughly recommend following the
Dartmoor Way from Holne around past
Sharp Tor (Dartmeet) to
Dartmeet before heading back east through the gorge back to where you started. It's a full day out and a spectacular experience.
Devon attractions
There are plenty of other attractions close to Holne.
River Dart Adventures and
Buckfast Abbey are just down the road. The
Princetown National Park Visitor Centre and
Haytor Rocks are a little further to the west and north east respectively.
Local area
Towards the eastern boundary of the Park, there are also plenty of places to visit in the local area.
The English Riviera,
Totnes and
South Devon come highly recommended. Owing to Holne's close proximity to the A38, both
Exeter and
Plymouth are within easy reach of the moors for a day trip.
