Devon's most southerly village
Devon's most southerly village, East Prawle is great for coastal walking and relaxing on relatively secluded beaches. Within the South Devon AONB and district of South Hams, the village is close to The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary.

Coast and beaches
There's a village green with a pub called The Pigs Nose Inn and a shop. Various paths lead down to the coastline. If you want to walk to the west towards The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary and the pretty village of East Portlemouth then follow the signs for Prawle Point.

Alternatively, follow the South West Coast Path east to Start Point. You'll pass various beaches such as Horseley Cove and Woodcombe Sand, Lannacombe Beach and Great Mattiscombe Sand. From Start Point and its lighthouse, there are amazing views of the South Devon coastline at Start Bay. You'll see Hall Sands and Bee Sands, Slapton Sands and Blackpool Sands. If you're in East Prawle for a walking holiday, we'd recommend following the South West Coast Path north along those beaches.

Sailing and local attractions
It's fun to take a boat trip on The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. From East Prawle, travel to East Portlemouth and take the water taxi across the water to Salcombe. From there, book a trip on a boat either to Kingsbridge or out to sea. For a more condensed watery experience, take the South Sands Sea Tractor/Taxi to South Sands. From there, we'd recommend visiting the National Trust's Overbeck's Garden and Museum.

West of The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary, we'd recommend day trips to some of the wonderful sandy beaches that line the coast here. Try Hope Cove Mouthwell Beach and Thurlestone Sands/South Milton Sands (Beach), Bantham Beach and Dunes and Bigbury-on-Sea Beach. At Bigbury-on-Sea, climb to the top of Burgh Island with its famous Art Deco hotel and beautifully located pub called The Pilchard Inn.

If you have kids, Woodlands Park is a must. The water slides, in particular, are great fun. Over in Plymouth, we always recommend the Plymouth National Marine Aquarium.

Further afield
Dartmouth, to the north east of East Prawle, is sublime. Visit Dartmouth Castle and Dartmouth Museum, take a Dartmouth Boat Trips trip on the River Dart and hop onto a steam train to The English Riviera.

We'd also recommend trips to Totnes and Plymouth. Click through to the summary pages to discover more.

Last, for something very different, head up to Dartmoor National Park. We'd urge you to visit the Tamar Valley AONB as well.
