Beaches and coast
Surrounded by caravan and camping sites, Dawlish Warren is a popular and exceptionally busy Devon holiday spot. The local area is gorgeous but if you want to explore it away from the crowds, we'd suggest heading to Dawlish Warren outside the Summer holiday season. Clearly, if you're looking for those crowds then this is the place to be.

First, the setting. A sand spit juts out into the Exe Estuary with great views across the water to Exmouth and Exmouth Orcombe Point Geoneedle, the beginning of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Dawlish Warren Beach runs along the eastern side of this spit and leads to Warren Point. Running along the back of the beach are a golf course and Dawlish Warren National Nature Reserve. South of the famous coastal landmark Langstone Rock is Red Rock Beach. It's a beautiful area.

Around Dawlish Warren
If you fancy a break from the beach, there's plenty to do around Dawlish Warren. To the north, visit Powderham Castle and Estate before wandering along the Exe Valley Way to the The Turf and Turf Lock. If you have time, we'd recommend taking the Topsham Turf Ferry to Topsham. Further up the River Exe is Exeter.

To the north west, try Haldon Forest Park with its Go Ape! (Haldon Forest, Devon) and Haldon Belverdere (Lawrence Castle). To the west, we'd suggest trips to Canonteign Falls and Becky Falls Woodland Park on the border of Dartmoor National Park.

South west of Dawlish Warren, we'd recommend Teignmouth and Shaldon. South of them is The English Riviera.
