One of Devon's most beautiful villages
One of
Devon's most beautiful villages, Beer's main street runs down towards a unique and much photographed beach.
Beer beach
The beach is simply stunning. Best viewed, perhaps, from
Beer Jubilee Memorial Ground, the beach is a small arc of pebbles set beneath high white rock cliffs. To the west is
Beer Head. To the east, across
Seaton Bay, are the cliffs above
Seaton Beach which lead to the
Axmouth to Lyme Regis Undercliffs National Nature Reserve and
Dorset's Lyme Regis.
There's plenty of seating, pub-style tables and classic English seaside deckchairs, from which to watch people or fishermen at work. Owing to the lack of a
harbour, Beer's fishing fleet rests on the pebble beach.
World Heritage
Beer's part of the
Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site along which the National Trail
South West Coast Path runs. We'd recommend heading west of Beer to
Branscombe Beach and
Weston Mouth Beach. Tough walking (up and down), but spectacular coastal scenery.
Local attractions
Last, visit some of
East Devon's local attractions from the Quarry Caves to Pecorama,
Seaton Tramway to
Bicton Park Botanical Gardens.
