On the Cumbria and Lancashire border
Just south of the Lake District National Park and west of the Yorkshire Dales National Park on the border between Cumbria and Lancashire in north west England, running from the River Kent in the north of the AONB down through and including Morecambe Bay towards Carnforth.

To the south is the Forest of Bowland AONB and to the north east the North Pennines AONB.

Limestone hills and grassland
Low limestone hills and grassland alongside Morecambe Bay, the largest expanse of intertidal mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom.

Its highest points are Arnside Knott (159m), Warton Crag (125m) and Beetham Fell (110m). Morecambe Bay's sandflats and saltmarshes attract wading birds and birdwatchers. Note that the RSPB advise visitors not to go out onto the saltmarsh or tidal areas owing to dangerous quicksand. One of the UK's smallest AONBs, It covers 29 square miles (75 square km).
