White Moor Stone Circle, Devon

  • Located in Belstone, Devon, South West England, England
  • White Moor Stone Circle is sited in the north of Dartmoor National Park near the huge dome of Cosdon Beacon and Hill. The location is superb. Rising from a broad ridge that sweeps between Cosdon Beacon and Hill and Wild Tor, the view west to southern England's only two mountains is very special. Below, to the north west, is Taw Marsh. To the south east is the boggy ground around Walla Brook and the upper section of the North Teign River. To the north east is the dangerous Raybarrow Pool. When walking to White Moor Stone Circle it's best to avoid these areas
  • Near White Moor Stone Circle is White Moor Stone. Over a mile north east, on the flank of Cosdon, is Cosdon (The Cemetery) Stone Row. East, on Scorhill Down, is Scorhill Stone Circle. Beyond Scorhill Stone Circle are Shovel Down Stone Rows and Round Pound
  • To visit, you can walk in from Belstone, South Zeal or the small car park at Scorhill Down. Consult the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail. If you head in from the Scorhill direction, follow the wide, grassy track that runs along the south side of Kennon Hill. If you walk in from South Zeal following the track clearly marked on the Ordnance Survey map make sure you avoid Raybarrow Pool. This is one of the most dangerous areas in the National Park
