Tavistock Museum and Court Gate, Devon

  • Tavistock Museum and Court Gate are situated by Bedford Square. The statue you see is of the seventh Duke of Bedford. The Earls and subsequently Dukes of Bedford were given the abbey site and its lands in 1539 during the Dissolution of the Monasteries. Court Gate and the Tavistock Duke of Bedford Statue provide a nice introduction to a thousand years of history in this Dartmoor gateway town
