Prestonbury Castle, Devon

  • Located in Drewsteignton, Devon, South West England, England
  • Prestonbury Castle is one of a number of Iron Age hillforts in the Teign Gorge and North Dartmoor area. The fort is sited on a spur of land high above Fingle Bridge and Fingle Bridge Inn. The land drops very steeply to the valley floor and River Teign. Cranbrook Castle is located to the south west. Wooston Castle is to the south east. A little farther away are Nattadon Fort and Hunter's Tor Fort. We've positioned Prestonbury Castle on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its exact location. The Iron Age ramparts are clearly visible on the satellite imagery. Also see the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. The fort is by the car park and pub signs on that map. Note that you can also explore the area around Fingle Bridge using Google Street View
  • The photographs you see were taken across the valley near Cranbrook Castle. As we understand it, there's no public access to this site. If you know any different, please contact us with details and we'll visit and photograph. Many thanks
