Plym Head, Devon

  • Located in Sheepstor, Devon, South West England, England
  • The River Plym rises at Plym Head on the high moors of Dartmoor's south plateau. We've positioned Plym Head on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its exact location. The shallow dome of Crane Hill is to the north. The rocky cairn of Great Gnats Head is to the south. From Plym Head, the River Plym arcs to Plym Ford before flowing into the Upper Plym Valley with its collection of prehistoric sites
  • Having made the mistake of crossing the boggy ground just downstream of Plym Head as we walked south from Crane Hill to Great Gnats Head, we wouldn't recommend walking in this area. Cross the river at Plym Ford and head up onto the high moors on the Abbot's Way as marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map
  • Other Devon rivers rising on Dartmoor's south plateau include the River Erme at Erme Head and Fords and the River Avon at Avon Head
