New Waste, Devon

Cornwood is a village close to the southern border of Dartmoor National Park. A few miles north east, on the edge of the moors, is a Water Treatment Works by New Waste. It's clearly marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. There's limited parking where the tarmac road meets concrete tracks. It's a superb place from which to start exploring this part of the National Park. We've positioned New Waste on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. North west of New Waste are Hawns and Dendles Gorge and Yealm Steps Waterfall. North are Stalldown Stone Row and the massive Stall Moor Stone Row. North east is the beautiful Piles Valley cut by the River Erme
Once you've explored the New Waste area, we'd recommend moving south east to yomp the moors from the car parking area at Harford. This offers access to another impressive part of the National Park. Highlights include Ugborough Beacon and Eastern Beacon, Western Beacon, Three Barrows and Sharp Tor (South Dartmoor). Red Lake Railway runs up the spine of the moors here
If you fancy exploring north west of New Waste, there are plenty of car parking areas around the China Clay Workings (South Dartmoor). Try the parking areas near Blackaton Cross and Cadover Bridge
