Fingle Bridge Inn, Devon

  • Located in Drewsteignton, Devon, South West England, England
  • Fingle Bridge is a well known Devon beauty spot. Just down the road from Drewsteignton village in the north east section of Dartmoor National Park, the bridge spans the River Teign in the Teign Gorge. Fingle Bridge Inn looks onto this bridge
  • Whilst the riverside location is impressive, we'd recommend walking west along either bank of the river towards the National Trust's Castle Drogo and Gardens. At the end of the gorge, you'll see a modern bridge. From there, the Two Moors Way climbs towards Castle Drogo. At this point, you are high above the river and there are spectacular views of the Teign Gorge and the high north moors of Dartmoor National Park. This high path follows the lip of the gorge back to Fingle Bridge and Fingle Bridge Inn. We've walked this circular route dozens of times in all seasons and it's one of the best walking experiences in the National Park. For detail, refer to the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map. The route described above is clearly marked on that map. Note that the Dartmoor Way runs along the north bank of the River Teign west towards Castle Drogo but there is a good path on the south bank as well. If you chose the southern path, you cross the river on the aforementioned modern bridge
  • If you want to get away from the crowds, cross Fingle Bridge and head east along the riverbank. It's a long walk but one can follow the river to Dunsford Nature Reserve and Steps Bridge. This area is well known for its Spring show of wild daffodils
  • You can also cross Fingle Bridge and climb the steep path to Cranbrook Castle. Again, this is clearly marked on the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map
  • There's plenty of parking on both sides of Fingle Bridge. You'll find public toilets across the water from Fingle Bridge Inn. Cross the bridge to use the facilities
  • We've positioned Fingle Bridge Inn on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its exact location
