Eilean Donan Castle, Highland

  • Located in Kyle of Lochalsh, Highland, The Highlands & Islands, Scotland
  • Eilean Donan Castle, Dornie, by Kyle of Lochalsh, Scotland IV40 8DX
  • One of Scotland's most famous castles, Eilean Donan is home to the Clan MacRae
  • The castle is located on the shores of Loch Duich close to Skye Bridge and the glorious Isle of Skye. Loch Duich meets Loch Alsh and Loch Long at this point. We've positioned Eilean Donan Castle on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its exact location. There's plenty of parking just off the A87 which is clearly visible on the satellite mapping. You then walk past the large visitor centre and across a bridge to access the castle and island on which it was built
  • Used as a location in the Hollywood film 'Highlander', Eilean Donan Castle was built in the thirteenth century
  • Demolished by Royal Navy frigates in 1719 after the castle had been used by Spanish troops during another failed Jacobite Rising
  • Eilean Donan was restored over two hundred years later by Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap
  • By James Penman
