Down Tor Stone Row (Hingston Hill Stone Row), Devon

  • Located in Princetown, Devon, South West England, England
  • In our opinion, this is one of the most impressive stone rows in Dartmoor National Park. Down Tor Stone Row (Hingston Hill Stone Row) is a long, single stone row north east of Burrator Reservoir and north west of the famous prehistoric complex at Drizzle Combe. There's a circle of stones surrounding a cairn at the south west end of Down Tor Stone Row (Hingston Hill Stone Row). From there, a number of very large stones form a dramatic beginning, or end, to the row
  • To visit, walk in from the car parking area at Norsworthy Bridge at the north east end of Burrator Reservoir or from the car parking areas near Siward's or Nun's Cross and Nun's Cross Farm. From Norsworthy Bridge, head up to Down Tor and then cross the moors to the stone row. From the Siward's or Nun's Cross and Nun's Cross Farm area, follow the grass and mud track that trends west leading down to the row. We've positioned Down Tor Stone Row (Hingston Hill Stone Row) on Google maps so zoom in on the 'Satellite' setting to see its location. The stone row and circle are clearly visible on the satellite imagery. For detail, refer to the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map
  • In the local area, we'd recommend walking down to Drizzle Combe. This is part of English Heritage's Upper Plym Valley
