Devil's Tor, Devon

  • Located in Two Bridges, Devon, South West England, England
  • We'd recommend visiting Devil's Tor for its location and views. The granite outcrops are small by Dartmoor standards but the location and views more than make up for that. It's a wonderful place, especially if you're looking to get away from the crowds in the National Park's more popular places
  • Devil's Tor is located south of Cut Hill and Fur Tor so it's close to the most remote area within Dartmoor National Park and southern England. Because, at 549m, it's relatively high, the views are huge. Highlights include the very rocky summit of Great Mis Tor to the south west and Longaford Tor above Wistman's Wood National Nature Reserve
  • We've walked to Devil's Tor from both Two Bridges and the Bellever Forest area. If you're starting from Two Bridges, we'd suggest you walk to the west side of the West River Dart to Beardown Tors. From there, Devil's Tor is an easy walk north. If you're heading in from the Bellever Forest area, we'd recommend you follow the Lych Way to Longaford Tor. From there, head to Higher White Tor and Lower White Tor before crossing the river just east of Rough Tor (Dartmoor). You then cross a very boggy area to get to Devil's Tor. Study the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail
  • Note that Devil's Tor is in the Merrivale Range. This is a training area for the British army so if you see red flags flying do not try to visit the tor. You'll hear the gunfire a long way off anyway
