Chesil Beach, Dorset

- 29 kilometres (18 mi) long shingle beach
- 200 metres (660 ft) wide and 15 metres (50 ft) high
- Mostly separated from the mainland by an area of saline water called the Fleet Lagoon
- Runs from Portland in the east to West Bay in the west
- Inspired this magical line: '18 miles and 180 billion pebbles' (see chesilbeach website below)!
- Owing to the fact that it's made up of little pebbles, the beach can be hard to walk on for great distances
- The sound of sea on shingle is wonderful
