According to the Harvey British Mountain Map 'Dartmoor' map, there's a 'Medieval Road' running along Challacombe Valley floor. In reality, the road is a wide grass track that runs flat to Challacombe Farm. At the farm you'll find the ruins of Challacombe Medieval Hamlet
The villagers farmed lynchets, or field strips, close to the medieval tin mines around Vitifer and Golden Dagger. Human activity here stretches back for millennia. English Heritage's Grimspound is across the valley. Challacombe Stone Row is near the farm strips where deep gullies cut into the land
