Bigbury Bay, Devon

Bigbury Bay is large bay in South Devon running, roughly speaking, from Bolt Tail in the east to the Stoke Point area in the west. The bay is home to many of Devon's most impressive sand beaches
Running east to west, these beaches include Hope Cove Harbour Beach, Hope Cove Mouthwell Beach, Thurlestone Sands/South Milton Sands (Beach), Thurlestone Leas Foot Sand (Beach), Bantham Beach and Dunes, Bigbury-on-Sea Beach, Challaborough Beach, Ayrmer Cove and Wonwell Beach
Burgh Island is pretty much in the centre of the bay. Accessible by low tide via a sand spit or at high tide on a sea tractor, the island is famous for its Art Deco hotel. There's also a good pub called the Pilchard Inn
The bay provides excellent coastal walking on the South West Coast Path. We'd particularly recommend the stretch from Bantham Beach and Dunes to Thurlestone Leas Foot Sand (Beach)
Villages in the bay include Bigbury-on-Sea, Thurlestone and Outer Hope. To its east are Salcombe and The Salcombe Kingsbridge Estuary. Plymouth is to the west. Dartmoor National Park is to the north and north west. The English Riviera is to the north east
Other South Devon bays include Start Bay, Lannacombe Bay, Tor Bay and Babbacombe Bay
