Beardown Tors, Devon

  • Located in Two Bridges, Devon, South West England, England
  • A beautiful cluster of large, rocky granite outcrops, Beardown Tors are located on the edge of the British Army's Merrivale Range just north of Two Bridges and its hotel. The views are superb in all directions from the summits of the tors
  • The Beardown Tors are sandwiched between two rivers. The West River Dart flows below the tors to the east. The River Cowsic flows below the tors to the west. Along the far bank of the West River Dart, you'll see Wistman's Wood. Above that are the bulk of Longaford Tor and the Littaford Tors. North of Beardown Tors are Lydford Tor and Crow Tor, Rough Tor (Dartmoor) and Devil's Tor. By the latter is the enigmatic Beardown Man Standing Stone
  • To visit, walk in from the car parking areas at either Holming Beam and Long Plantation or Two Bridges. The latter is across the road from the hotel. If the Army are training, you'll see red flags. This cuts off the Holming Beam approach. You'll still be able to follow the Two Bridges route by the leat that runs above the west bank of the West River Dart. One of our research and photography trips took place on a day like this. • As ever, we'd suggest you consult the Ordnance Survey Explorer OL28 'Dartmoor' map for detail
