Natural beauty and the North Downs
South of London in the county of Surrey.

The Surrey Downs are part of the larger North Downs which run 120 miles (190 km) from west Surrey to the Dover Coast. The North Downs comprise the Surrey Hills AONB and the Kent Downs AONB. Surrey Hills also runs into the Sussex Downs AONB to the west.

Places in which to base yourself
Surrey's major destinations are on the fringe of the AONB so it's an idea to base yourself in Farnham or Haslemere, Godalming or Dorking.

Attractions
The National Trust's Box Hill south east of Leatherhead to the east of the AONB offers fine views. Try also the Devil's Punch Bowl in the south west corner of the county by Hindhead and Hindhead Commons.

Leith Hill is Surrey's highest point and in nearby Dorking (to the north east) you'll find Dorking Caves.

Winkworth Arboretum is close to Godalming and the 18th century Palladian mansion of Clandon Park is to the east of Guildford on the AONB boundary.

Last, try Denbies Wine Estate, the largest vineyard in the UK.
