Top 10 Recommended Villages in South Devon AONB

Perhaps South Devon's most famous village. Burgh Island is across the beach (or sea, when the tide's out). Bantham Beach is gorgeous.

At the southern end of the mighty Slaption Sands with top views of Start Bay. On the South West Coast Path. Splendid place.

Across the water from Dartmouth so much of what we said about Dartmouth in the 'Top 10 Towns' list can be repeated here. The view from the top of the village is sublime.

On a bank of the Kingsbridge Salcombe Estuary with Salcombe a minute's ferry ride across the water. The beaches along the coast here are magnificent.

Between Salcombe and Bigbury-on-Sea. A classic West Country village and harbour. Several beaches and ideal location to explore the AONB east and west.

Beach heaven. Rock pooling heaven. Superb views east to Outer and Inner Hope and west to Bantham Beach, Burgh Island and Cornwall beyond. Top place.

In the west of the AONB and close to Plymouth. Great walking along to the South West Coast Path to Newton Ferrers or towards the Plymouth Sound.

Idyllic location on a bank of the River Yealm. Perfect base for coastal walking or boat trips along the Devon/Cornwall coast here.

Pretty village on the bank of the River Dart and across the water from Agatha Christie's house. You'll pass Dittisham if you take a boat trip from Dartmouth to Totnes or vice versa.

South of Torcross on the coastline of Start Bay. Great walking south past Hallsands to Start Point.
