Sweep of pebble beach
The road that dips down from Porlock and the A39 towards the coast takes you to Porlock Weir. There's plenty of parking (although the hamlet can get very busy) and it's one of Somerset's most beautiful spots. If you're not coming by road, walk to Porlock Weir on the South West Coast Path which begins to the east at Minehead.

Porlock Weir sits behind a sweep of pebble beach in Porlock Bay. Visit its shops and boat shed museum. Eat and drink in The Ship Inn and Anchor Hotel. The small harbour is home to fishing boats and yachts.

Local attractions
If you're into walking and fine views, Dunkery Beacon and Hill are to the south. The highest point in Exmoor National Park, the summit offers fine panoramic views including Dartmoor National Park and the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Exmoor Classic Car Museum is in Porlock and Doone Valley to the west and south west.

If history and culture are your thing, try Dunster Castle and the superb, and very small, Culbone St Beuno's Church.

Along the coast to the west are Lynmouth and Lynton. Inland, there, is the National Trust's Watersmeet. To the east of Porlock Weir are Minehead Beach and Watchet Marina.

Further afield
To the west of Exmoor National Park are the massive Atlantic facing beaches of the North Devon AONB. To the east, the pretty hills of the Quantock Hills AONB. To the south east is Exeter and to the south Dartmoor National Park. These are all a long-ish day trip from Porlock Weir if you're basing yourself in the hamlet for a longer holiday and want to discover more of South West England.
