One of South West England's most beautiful villages
A peach of a place. Dominated by Dunster Castle, the village has a wide central street and a seventeenth century Yarn Market. We'd recommend you explore Dunster on your way into Exmoor if you are heading to the Park from the east for a holiday or weekend break. Alternatively, book accommodation in Dunster and use it as a base from which to exlpore Exmoor, Somerset and Devon.

We think it's one of South West England's most beautiful villages.*

Dunster Estate
Dunster Estate surrounds the medieval village and is packed with things to do and see. Of particular mention is the tall trees trail, which has an all abilities trail amongst the tall trees including the tallest tree in England (60m/200ft) and the tallest magnolia in England (24m/79ft)!

Exmoor National Park and the coast
On the eastern border of Exmoor National Park, Dunster's also a short distance from the coastline. Minehead, a very popular British seaside resort, is to the north west and Watchet to the east.

The main destination in the area is, clearly, the National Park. We'd recommend walking to the summit of Dunkery Beacon and Hill for superb views down to Dartmoor National Park and across the Bristol Channel to the Brecon Beacons National Park. This is the highest point in the Park.

Visit also Porlock Weir and Doone Valley, Lynmouth and Exmoor Zoo. Walk the South West Coast Path (which begins, or ends, in Minehead) and look out for Exmoor Ponies.

Further afield
A little further afield, we'd suggest you spend a few days exploring the beaches of the North Devon AONB.

* For other beautiful villages in South West England, we'd recommend Castle Combe and Sennen, Clovelly and Lacock. Try also Bibury, Beer and West Lulworth.
