Superb location
Members of the team here at PictureTheUK have lived in Bishop's Stortford for almost forty years. One of a number of thriving commuter towns that ring London, Bishop's Stortford's in a superb location to explore some of London's, South East England's and the East of England's best destinations and attractions.
On Stanstead Airport's doorstep, Bishop's Stortford is just off the M11 and has fast rail connections to London and Cambridge. It's a thriving and affluent market town.
The local area
We'd recommend half a day at Mountfitchet Castle and Norman Village which is a short distance to the north east of Bishop's Stortford. A reconstruction of an 11th century castle, it provides a super insight into the lives of people a millennia ago. Next door, visit Mountfitchet Castle Toy Museum.
To the north, via the M11, are Audley End House and Gardens and the Imperial War Museum, Duxford. The latter is a full day out and particularly impressive. Beyond Duxford is Cambridge with major attractions such as the Fitzwilliam Museum and The Backs, King's Parade and Punting on the River Cam.
To the south west, we'd suggest trips to The Henry Moore Foundation and Paradise Wildlife Park, Hatfield House and St Albans Cathedral.
Further afield
London's roughly thirty or so minutes away on the fast train from Bishop's Stortford. At Liverpool Street Station, walk into the City of London or take the Tube to the City of Westminster. Central London's pretty small and we'd recommend exploring on foot if possible. Highlights include Westminster Palace World Heritage Site and the Tower Of London World Heritage Site, the British Museum and The National Gallery.
