In South East England. On the south coast by the English Channel. Surrounded by the counties of Dorset, Wiltshire, Berkshire, Surrey and West Sussex. To the south, across a stretch of water, is the Isle of Wight

Home to the New Forest National Park and part of the South Downs National Park.
There are also two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB): East Hampshire AONB and High Weald AONB.
Places in which to base yourself
Major towns and villages include Winchester (the county town), Portsmouth, Southampton, Stockbridge, Petersfield, Bucklers Hard and Beaulieu.
Culture and history
If you're looking for a bit of culture, try Winchester Public Museum, Andover Museum and Museum of the Iron Age, Fort Nelson Royal Armouries, Beaulieu National Motor Museum, Charles Dickens Museum and Winchester Westgate Museum.
For history, try Winchester Great Hall and Round Table, Winchester Cathedral, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, HMS Victory, HMS Warrior, Beaulieu Abbey, Portchester Castle.
Nature and outdoors
You should also try Marwell Zoological Park, The Hawk Conservancy Trust, Portsmouth Bluereef Aquarium. We'd also recommend a yomp on the Hampshire Downs.
