Villages in England
From Cornwall in the South West to Northumberland in the North East, from the Cotswolds in Wiltshire to the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North Yorkshire, England is home to numerous beautiful villages. Browse our 'Top 10 Recommended Villages in England' list for ideas. We'd also suggest you look at our summary guides to specific destinations such as Devon or Dartmoor National Park. These have further, more specific, village recommendations. Last, take a look at our other 'Top 10' lists to help you discover places to go and things to do in the UK. By James Penman.

Castle Combe, Wiltshire

Said to be the prettiest village in England. In the south of the Cotswolds AONB in the county of Wiltshire and close to both the stunning Bradford-on-Avon and Bath City UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Edale

Glorious location in the Peak District National Park. At the foot of the Dark (or High) Peak, this is top walking country.

Clovelly, Devon

Built into the side of steep, wooded coastline in The Hartland Peninsula within the North Devon AONB. Exceptionally beautiful and exceptionally popular. Costs to enter, too.

Craster

In the Northumberland Coast AONB. A fishing village from which begins a stunning walk to Dunstanburgh Castle. Also try Alnmouth.

Bibury, Gloucestershire

Perhaps the inhabitants of Castle Combe will disagree but William Morris descibed Bibury as 'the most beautiful village in England'. A Cotswolds AONB cracker.

Beer, Devon

One of our favourites. Beautiful village strung out along its main road leading to an exceptional pebble beach set beneath white cliffs. Fishing boats, walkways, cafes, deck chairs on beach. Top views east.

Lacock Village, Wiltshire

One of many National Trust owned villages in the UK. As is the case with all the villages on this list, it's stunning, but when visiting Lacock you get the bonus of Lacock Abbey (Harry Potter location), the Fox Talbot Museum and Bowood House nearby.

Burnsall, North Yorkshire

Whilst researching the Yorkshire and The Humber region, this village stood out. Amazing location within the Yorkshire Dales National Park with easy access to some of the area's best attractions.

Dunster

A gateway village to Exmoor National Park in Somerset. Its castle and yarn market are great.

Sennen, Cornwall

Cornwall is full of wondeful fishing villages (check out our Top 10 villages in the Cornwall section) but this place never ceases to amaze. Special.
