The Norfolk Coastline
The AONB takes in most of the Norfolk coastline running just north of King’s Lynn in the west of the county by The Wash all the way around to Sea Palling and Horsey on the edge of The Broads National Park. The AONB runs around many of the coastline’s most famous destinations such as Sheringham, Cromer, Overstrand and Mundesley. To the south, beyond The Broads National Park, is the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB. Within the AONB, you'll find the North Norfolk Heritage Coast which Natural England describes as 'the finest of its kind in these islands and probably in Europe' (link provided). It runs from Holme in the west of the AONB along the top of the coast to Weybourne. Glorious Beaches Glorious beaches within the AONB include Holkham and Wells-next-the-Sea, Weybourne and Sea Palling. Sheringham, Cromer, Overstrand and Mundesley beaches are in small pockets of land excluded from the AONB but clearly they’re all outstandingly beautiful and essential visiting if into sand and sea. Attractions Others attractions within the AONB include a section of Sandringham Estate, Holkham Hall, Cley Windmill and Cley Marshes (the UK’s first Nature Reserve, designated in 1926). Take time to walk a section of the Peddars Way/Norfolk Coast Path, one of the UK's National Trails. Wildlife Designated an AONB in 1968 and covers in the region of 450 square kilometres, so substantially bigger than the county’s Broads National Park. The AONB pushes up to 6 kilometres inland. The Norfolk Coast AONB is well known for its birds which are attracted to the area by its coastal marshes.
