Isle of Wight AONB, Visitor & Tourism Guide

Photo © Owner

Covers about half of the Isle of Wight
Off the south coast of England, across the Solent from the county of Hampshire and the cities of Southampton and Portsmouth, the AONB covers about half of Isle of Wight.

The Solent is the stretch of sea in the English Channel that separates the Isle of Wight from mainland England. The English Channel is the stretch of sea that separates the UK from France and runs from Cornwall up to Kent.

The AONB runs along the majority of the island's coastline. The largest stretch is across the 'Tennyson Heritage Coast' from around Ventnor to the south east across to The Needles and Alum Bay in the west.

To the north west is the 'Hamstead Heritage Coast', to the north the area around East Cowes and to the east an area of land jutting inland towards Newport.

Perhaps the best way to experience the AONB's coastline is to walk it on the Isle of Wight Coastal Path which is about 113km (70miles) long.
