East Sussex, Visitor & Tourism Guide
1066 Country
In 1066, William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, defeated the English King Harold Godwinson at
Battle, an East Sussex village a short distance from
Hastings. The next thousand years of UK history flow from this event so it's a great place from which to start exploring these islands. The county's also astonishingly beautiful and the perfect destination for anyone who's up for a party.
East Susex is in
South East England. The English Channel's to the south. Inland, the county is surrounded by
Kent,
Surrey and
West Sussex.
London is to the north. Because the county has so much going for it and owing to its close proximity to the capital, it can get crowded.
