Exceptional seaside town and tourist resort on the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. Lyme Regis is located in west Dorset on the border with Devon.

The town looks out across Lyme Bay towards one of the most dramatic stretches of the Jurassic Coast including Golden Cap and the distinctive orange cliffs at West Bay. Beyond that are Chesil Beach and the Isle of Portland.

Because it's exceptional, it's also very popular. There are plenty of car parks (two big ones on the A3052 as you enter town from the east and west) but these fill up quick. There are Park and Ride car parks a little further out. To avoid traffic in high season, walk in on the South West Coast Path.

There's a long, shingle beach in addition to one of the few sandy beaches along the Jurassic Coast. Just around the corner, to the east of Lyme Regis, is an area of coastline very popular with fossil hunters. Best to take a hammer! You can also buy fossils in one of many fossil shops in town.

Lyme Regis is, perhaps, most famous for its harbour wall, The Cobb, which features in both Jane Austen's novel 'Persuasion' and John Fowles's novel 'The French Lieutenant's Woman'. The view from the end of The Cobb out across the Dorset coast is wonderful.

There's a musuem, aquarium, countless pubs, cafes, restaurants and loads of shops.

This is a destination we can't recommend highly enough.
