'Torbados' is one of the most exceptional places to visit in Devon.
The heart of The English Riviera, Torquay is, in parts, sublime. Whilst most people arrive by car or train, perhaps the best introduction is by the South West Coast Path. Heading into town from the east (ie, from Hope's Nose past Meadfoot Beach and Daddyhole Cove towards Living Coasts) there are magnificent views of the marina with the HiFlyer Balloon beyond. Torbay opens out in front of you with views south to another cracking Riviera town, Brixham, and Berry Head Forts. The town itself is dominated by Torquay Marina around which are ornamental gardens, a superb pier, Victorian terraces and an extensive promenade. There are numerous beaches in the area (Meadfoot Beach, Babbacombe Beach, Oddicombe Beach, Paignton Beach, Goodrington Sands and Broadsands Beach (The English Riviera)), many of which have red sand which is a remnant of Torbay's rich geological past. If you're heading to Torquay, we'd recommend an afternoon at Kents Cavern which is part of the English Riviera Geopark, the world's first urban Geopark. Babbacombe, Paignton, Goodrington and Brixham are all close by and form The English Riviera. [Information provided by picturetheuk] External Links None |
