Start Bay
Located towards the centre of a sweep of coast looking out at Start Bay, Torcross offers magnificent views of Slapton Sands.
Beach holidays
The area's perfect for beach holidays or weekends by the sea. Slapton Sands is an enormous stretch of shingle beach running north of Torcross towards Strete. Here, you'll find Blackpool Sands, one of the most photographed beaches in Devon.
To the south of Torcross, visit Bee Sands and Hall Sands. If you like walking, we'd recommend taking the South West Coast Path, Start (or End) south of Torcross past both Bee Sands and Hall Sands down to Start Point and Start Point Lighthouse. There's a good pub in Beesands called 'The Cricket Inn'.
Surrounding area
Whilst you could spend days enjoying the beaches that line Start Bay, take time to explore the surrounding area. South Devon and the South Hams are known for their natural beauty and waterside towns such as Salcombe and Dartmouth are essential UK visiting. North of Dartmouth, The English Riviera is, in parts, sublime so ignore ill-informed or snooty press about the area.
A little further afield, try Plymouth for its attractions and astonishing history and Dartmoor National Park for its walking and scenery. We supply plenty of recommendations for things to do in these places.
