Things To Do in Devon
We've been photographing and researching Devon and its attractions for years. It's a big county and, as such, there's loads to do. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites to top kids' attractions, a nationally important aquarium to some superb National Trust properties, there are attractions to suit all tastes. As an introductuon, here are our 'Top 10 Recommended Things To Do in Devon'. We provide explanatory text. We'd also suggest you browse our other 'Top 10' lists for inspiration. For example, we provide recommendations for Devon beaches and museums, bays and zoos.

National Marine Aquarium

The UK's largest aquarium. Watch sharks, turtles, fish, sea horses, lobsters, crabs up close. Great views across Plymouth Sound. Close by are the Plymouth Mayflower Visitor Centre, Plymouth Smeaton's Tower and Plymouth Hoe.

Bantham Beach

Popular and large sandy beach joining Bigbury-on-Sea Beach when the tide's out. Stunning views across the sea to Burgh Island. We'd recommend following the South West Coast Path to Thurlestone Sands/South Milton Sands (Beach), too.

Lydford Gorge and Waterfall, Devon

The highest natural waterfall and the deepest gorge in South West England. Literally, a sensational experience. Other Devon National Trust properties include Castle Drogo and Gardens. Also visit Canonteign Falls.

The English Riviera

The horseshoe of coast around Torbay in east Devon. Outstandingly beautiful and crammed with things to do such as Kents Cavern and Living Coasts. Click through to the summary guide to learn more.

Exeter Cathedral, Devon

The vaulted ceiling, said to be the longest uninterrupted vaulted ceiling in the world, must be experienced if you're visiting this part of England. Exeter is a super, compact city.

Northam Burrows Beach, Devon

A massive, flat sandy beach that runs for miles to the north where it connects with Saunton Sands (Beach). In the area, explore the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere Reserve.

Exmoor Zoo

Friendly contact zoo in the North Devon countryside near Exmoor National Park with a wonderful mix of big and small animals. Try also Dartmoor Zoological Park and Paignton Zoo.

Powderham Castle and Estate

A long and fun family day out with its castle, deer park safari, secret garden, children's play fort, birds of prey. Locally, we'd recommend The Turf and Turf Lock and the River Exe and Estuary.

Buckfast Abbey, Devon

An active monastery on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. A quiet pleasure. Shops too! In the National Park, explore the Dart Gorge.
