Princetown, Devon, Visitor & Tourism Guide

Quick Links
National Park: Dartmoor
Towns/Villages: Tavistock, Moretonhampstead, Postbridge, Widecombe in the Moor

Central Dartmoor
Located in central Dartmoor National Park, Princetown’s Princetown National Park Visitor Centre is essential visiting. Housed in a handsome building, visitors walk through the geology and natural history of the area. There are interesting permanent exhibitions exploring working life on the moors. (We suggest you visit the Museum of Dartmoor Life in Okehampton as well).

Burrator Reservoir and the Plym Valley
Head south west of Princetown to experience the magnificent Burrator Reservoir which is surrounded by some of Dartmoor’s most elegant tors including Leather Tor, a fin of rock reminiscent of Tryfan in Snowdonia National Park.

To the south east of Princetown we’d recommend walking the Plym Valley to explore its exceptional prehistoric settlements.

Bellever Forest and Great Mis Tor
To the north east are Bellever Forest and Bellever Tor with Postbridge Clapper Bridge beyond that. To the north west is the high moor including Great Mis Tor.

Tavistock, Tamar and Plymouth
Tavistock, a pleasant Dartmoor ‘gateway town’ is to the west and the Tamar Valley AONB runs along the Devon/Cornwall border. To the south of Princetown and a short-ish drive away is Plymouth.
