Mountains
At the foot of the only two mountains in southern England and on the lip of one of Dartmoor's many stunning wooded valleys or cleaves, Meldon's in top walking country.

The mountains Yes Tor and High Willhays are close to the south east. Whilst they're not the big, craggy peaks of, say, Snowdonia National Park, they do provide wonderful views of the Park and are natural stopping points on a looping walk from the generous car park at Meldon Reservoir and Dam.

Walking
The Dartmoor Way, Two Castle Trail, West Devon Way and Granite Way all pass through here. The latter is great for easy bike rides, too, and passes over Meldon Viaduct with views into the beautiful West Okement River. The Granite Way heads down to the stunning Lydford Gorge and Waterfall, a National Trust treat.

Local attractions
In addition to the Lydford Gorge and Waterfall, the area's surprisingly packed with top tourist goodies. We'd recommend English Heritage's Okehampton Castle and the National Trust's Castle Drogo and Gardens.

Tamar Valley AONB and Cornwall
If you’re heading to this part of Dartmoor, we’d also suggest you visit the Tamar Valley AONB and take time to explore the north and east of Cornwall.
