Dartmouth, Devon, Visitor Guide

Magnificent natural harbour at the mouth of the River Dart set below steep sided, green hills in the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

A strategically important port protected by two castles (Dartmouth Castle and Kingswear Castle). Ships headed to the 'Crusades' from Dartmouth in the twelfth century. Home to the Britannia Royal Naval College.

Exceptional views of the town from across the water at Kingswear. A ferry crosses between the two destinations.

Plenty of boat trips available up the river and out to sea. Superb place to people watch, eat, drink and shop. When the sun's out, it's up there with the best destinations in South West England.

Blackpool Sands is to the south. Beyond that are Slapton Sands, Start Bay and Start Point. To the north of Dartmouth is The English Riviera.

Inland, Berry Pomeroy Castle and Totnes Castle are well worth a trip. The majority of the South Hams and popular tourist towns such as Salcombe are to the south too.
