Brixham, Devon, Visitor Guide
Self-styled 'one of Britain's most picturesque and historic harbour towns'.
To the south of
Torbay and the southernmost town within
The English Riviera. The coastline here runs into the
South Devon AONB with the next major destination being
Dartmouth.
Brixham's a wonderful place and has a very different vibe to most of the other destinations within the Riviera. There's a stunning
inner harbour surrounded by colourful buildings, restaurants, pubs and plenty of shops. Within the harbour is a replica of
The Golden Hinde (Devon) (another replica can be found in
London). A short walk takes the visitor to the
outer harbour and marina with its
heritage fishing fleet. Beyond that is
Brixham breakwater and lighthouse which offers great views across
Torbay and back towards Brixham.
The
South West Coast Path runs past the waterfront area of the town on its way south to the
Berry Head Forts or north towards
Fishcombe Cove and
Churston Cove.
William of Orange, later King William III of Great Britain and Ireland, landed here in 1688!
