Another spectacular English Riviera town
Brixham is self-styled as 'one of Britain's most picturesque and historic harbour towns'. We'd agree. In our opinion, Brixham is up there with South West England destinations such as St. Ives and Mevagissey. If you're heading to this part of Devon to visit Dartmouth and Salcombe then we'd suggest you add Brixham to your list of places to explore.

Part of Tor Bay, Brixham is the southernmost town within The English Riviera. The coastline here runs into the South Devon AONB with the next major destination being Dartmouth.

Harbours and marina
Brixham's a wonderful place and has a very different vibe to most of the other destinations within the Riviera. There's a stunning inner harbour surrounded by colourful buildings, restaurants, pubs and plenty of shops. Within the harbour is a replica of The Golden Hinde (Devon) (another replica can be found in London). A short walk takes the visitor to the outer harbour and marina with its heritage fishing fleet. Beyond that is Brixham breakwater and lighthouse which offers great views across Tor Bay and back towards Brixham.

South West Coast Path and William of Orange
The South West Coast Path runs past the waterfront area of the town on its way south to the Berry Head Forts or north towards Fishcombe Cove and Churston Cove.

William of Orange, later King William III of Great Britain and Ireland, landed here in 1688. We've been told by one local expert that Napoleon was prisoner on a ship that was anchored off the coast here before he was sent into exile.

Local attractions
We'd recommend trips to Paignton Zoo and Berry Pomeroy Castle, Totnes Castle and Kents Cavern. In the Torquay area, try Torquay Marina and Living Coasts.

To the south of Brixham, we'd suggest visits to Dartmouth and Blackpool Sands, Slapton Sands and Salcombe.

To the west, explore Dartmoor National Park. We provide plenty of recommendations for places to visit and things to do within the National Park.
