Dominated by its nineteenth century Gothic Revival cathedral, Truro is Cornwall's capital city and it's also the most southerly in the UK. It's compact, a 'city village' one local told us.
A port and ancient stannary town, Truro is built around a number of rivers that converge into the River Truro and eventually flow into the River Fal which runs south east into the sea around Falmouth and St. Mawes. Truro Cathedral attracts over 200,000 visitors a year apparently. Built on the site of a thirteenth century parish church, construction started in 1880 and took thirty years to complete. It's impressive. We'd recommend a visit to the Royal Cornwall Museum, The Hall for Cornwall (theatre/concert venue if you're staying in the area) or a trip down the River Truro. You can take a ferry down the River Fal to various destinations including Falmouth and St. Mawes. St. Ives is to the south west, Newquay to the north west, The Eden Project to the north east and the Lizard to the south. [Information provided by picturetheuk] External Links www.enjoytruro.co.uk |
