Dramatic castle
We'd recommend heading to this part of Cornwall for Tintagel Castle alone. Its location, part mainland cliff and part rocky peninsula, is extraordinary. There are few castles in the UK that can compete with Tintagel's sheer natural beauty.*

Tintagel is also said to be the birthplace of King Arthur.

Local attractions
Explore the local coastline on the South West Coast Path. Boscastle Harbour is a good yomp to the north east. Beyond that, if you want to get the heart pumping, walk High Cliff (Boscastle/Crackington Haven).

If hiking's your thing, we'd suggest heading inland to Bodmin Moor. There's a nice circular walk that takes in Rough Tor (Bodmin) and Showery Tor from the car park on Roughtor Road.

To the south is the beach at Trebarwith Strand and to the south west Port Isaac Harbour & Beach.

Day trips
If you're prepared to travel, we'd suggest a trip to Lanhydrock House and Gardens and The Eden Project, River Camel and Estuary and Dartmoor National Park. To the north east are The Hartland Peninsula and the North Devon AONB. Exmoor National Park is a little further on.

*Perhaps Scottish coastal castles (for example Dunnottar Castle) are as beautifully located. There's Eilean Donan Castle, too.
